A critic of Vladimir Putin has been jailed for two years over comments about the war in Ukraine.

The veteran human rights activist Oleg Orlov described the case against him as politically motivated.

Speaking before the verdict, he warned that the country's elite was "dragging Russia back to the 16th century".
