A long-simmering anger against police brutality in the suburbs of France has turned into a nationwide unrest.

On Tuesday, 17-year-old Nahel was shot and killed by an officer in Nanterre- a working class town just outside Paris.

Rights groups say the lethal encounter is just one of the many instances of systemic racism targeting poor and ethnically diverse communities.
