France is officially ending its Operation Barkhane military mission in Africa's Sahel region.

Its soldiers have fought armed groups in the area for nine years.

But the mission was criticised for failing to produce results.

France's president Emmanuel Macron announced the operation's end while launching a national strategic review of the military's aims for the next decade.
