Ukraine is largely Christian of one sort or another. But it also has a Muslim minority. Most of them are from Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014, and the east, so they’ve been particularly affected by displacement and occupation.
They observed the holy month of Ramadan and Eid - in the middle of a war.
DW’s Aya Ibrahim traveled to a mosque near the eastern front line. There she met a former Muslim spiritual leader from the Donbas region who now spends much of his time helping soldiers in a very practical way.
