Former U.S. president Donald Trump has doubled down on his threat that if he returns to the White House, he would not protect NATO members from a potential Russian attack unless those allies increase their defence spending.

Of NATO’s 31 members, only 11 of them hit their threshold as of 2023, while as many as 18 countries could reach theirs this year.
