A recent report by independent Russian media has concluded hundreds of millions of dollars worth of restricted Western electronics reached Russia in the first half of this year – despite international sanctions. The investigation into classified Russian statistics suggests sanctions are failing to staunch the flow of Western made chips without which Russia would be unable to produce most high tech weapons – including the 65 Russian missiles that hit Ukraine over the past week. DW’s Nick Connolly takes a look at one of the weapons causing most harm to civilians in Ukraine and asks why sanctions still aren’t working.
