On April 15th, Sudan plunged into a violent crisis as a struggle for power broke out between the army and a paramilitary unit known as the Rapid Support Forces. Almost two months later, more than 1 million people have been internally displaced.

After international aid organisations fled the country, locals like Osham and his team of volunteers at the Red Sea Emergency Initiative worked tirelessly to transform Port Sudan into a safe haven for people fleeing the war.

Alt: After international aid organisations fled the country, locals like Osham and his team of volunteers at the Red Sea Emergency Initiative worked tirelessly to help rescue those fleeing the war in Khartoum and transform Port Sudan into a safe haven for those who make it out.

Join Osham in our latest Close Up episode, How I rescue people caught in Sudan’s war as he shines a light on the power of community to create change in the face of tragedy. In his own words: “War is a curse. Without peace, there is no life. … We will keep doing everything we can to help our brothers.
In the end, we are all Sudanese.”
