Hong Kong’s civil society has been decimated by a Beijing-imposed security law that has all but silenced the political opposition.

47 of the city’s best-known critics are facing possible life in prison after being charged with conspiracy to subvert the State. They took part in an unofficial election, and they’ve faced more than two years in detention before their trial has even begun.

In 2019, the former British colony saw back-to-back street demonstrations in which thousands took to the streets to fight against greater control from Beijing.

Newsnight has been filming with one of the last groups in Hong Kong that dares to protest. Danny Vincent reports.
