Home Secretary James Cleverly MP has told Sky News he regrets making what he called "a joke" about drink spiking.

Meanwhile, he said 112,000 applications for asylum had been processed in the last year, including "contemporary" cases and ones from the previous backlog.

Around 24,000 of that number were returned to their country of origin, although a number of these may have been turned down previously and not be part of the 112,000 cohort, he added.
