Denmark's Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest when he collapsed during his side's Euro 2020 opening match against Finland on Saturday, the team's doctor confirmed Sunday. However, he said the reason remained unclear.

"He was gone. And we did cardiac resuscitation and it was cardiac arrest," Morten Boesen said, adding Eriksen remained in hospital for further tests after his collapse. "How close were we? I don't know. We got him back after one defib (defibrillation) so that is quite fast."

The Danish players had been in contact with Eriksen via a video conference, Danish Football Association director Peter Møller Nielsen said during Sunday's news conference. Officials added test results for Eriksen were normal.
