Former British prime minister Boris Johnson spoke on Wednesday about his claim that Russian President Vladimir Putin had threatened him with a missile strike during a phone call prior to the beginning of the Ukraine war.

"He's like the fat boy in Dickens, he wants to make our flesh creep, he wants spook us," Johnson said during an event at The Atlantic Council in Washington, D.C.

Johnson went on to say countries nor the general public should get "sucked" into Putin's narrative of a confrontation between "nuclear-armed NATO and nuclear-armed Putin," and he believed it was becoming "vanishingly unlikely" nuclear weapons would be used by the Russian leader. The former British prime minister said what should be focused on is getting Ukraine the things they need as their conflict with Russia continues.
