Hawaii wildfires: What do we know so far?

Hawaii emergency management records show no indication that warning sirens were triggered before a devastating wildfire killed at least 55 people and wiped out a historic town.

The fires have left a trail of extensive devastation in Lahaina, a coastal resort city with a rich history as a whaling centre and the former capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom, now attracting two million annual tourists.

Presently, the Lahaina fire is 80% contained, while the Pulehu fire to the east is at 70%. The situation remains uncertain for the Upcountry fire in the island's mountainous central region, as reported by Maui County.
