Varanasi, which is just 200 km from Ayodhya, has now taken the centre stage in national news as the controversy involving the Gyanvapi shrine complex is stoking the religious sentiments of both the Hindu and Muslim communities in India. The disputed Gyanvapi complex claimed to have been built in 1669 by Mughal invader Aurangzeb, is located near the Kashi Vishwanath temple.
