Indigenous families in Canada have long known about children who never came home from residential schools.

In most cases, students who died weren’t sent home unless families could pay for it.

Decades later, the country is grappling with the discovery of unmarked graves, which have been found using ground-penetrating radar technology.

Dawna Friesen spoke with Kisha Supernant, an archaeologist with the University of Alberta, about the taxing and emotional work of using radar to find unmarked graves, and the need for more experts in the field.
