Housing minister Matthew Pennycook admitted that the government's goal of building 1.5 million homes this parliament is a "very stretching target".

Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced the plans earlier this week, saying that Labour will create a new taskforce "to accelerate stalled housing sites in our country".
