A Republican-controlled US congressional committee held the latest in a series of hearings on campus protests in solidarity with Gaza. From the outset, it was evident the hearing would focus on accusations rather than fact-finding. Republicans accused universities of being hotbeds of antisemitism, frequently cutting off college presidents as they tried to explain their actions regarding campus protests. Democrats argued the hearing was politically motivated, aimed at scoring points with right-wing voters. The war in Gaza, with over 35,000 people killed by Israeli forces, was scarcely mentioned. Meanwhile, UCLA saw renewed protests, highlighting ongoing campus tensions nationwide.
