In tonight's top story: The Canadian federal government released new draft regulations on Friday for its proposed Online News Act, which asks tech companies to compensate the media outlets they link to online. The bill has drawn the ire of social media giants Google and Meta, as Meta has already blocked Canadian media sites from its major platforms. As tens of thousands of people standby waiting to hear when they'll be able to return home in the Northwest Territories, officials in the territory are preparing for what's being called an "extreme wind event" this weekend. As Jayme Doll reports, gusts of more than 60km an hour are expected in some areas, raising fears the wildfire situation near communities like Hay River and Fort Simpson could worsen.

Quebec's new rules for online short-term rental platforms came into effect today. The province brought in a new law, and new fines, after seven people were killed in a massive fire in March. They were in a building in Old Montreal that contained several illegal Airbnbs. As Mike Armstrong reports, there appears to be some progress, but watchdog groups say many are still flouting the law.

In the U.S., a tough-to-watch moment played out in front of T.V. cameras this week as Republican Senator Mitch McConnell appeared to suffer a medical episode in the middle of a press conference, seemingly freezing. It's the second time it has happened in recent months. Plus, after a shocking loss for Team Canada on Friday at the FIBA World Cup, Canada was on track for a breakthrough tournament after easily beating their first three opponents. But as Eric Sorensen reports, the team now finds itself in a similar situation to previous years — on the verge of elimination.
