In tonight’s top story: Some good news for the Royal family after months of woe. On Sunday, King Charles made his first public appearance since his cancer diagnosis in February. He and Queen Camilla attended the traditional Easter Sunday service at St George's Chapel in Windsor. The monarch shook hands with members of the public — many of whom wished him and the Princess of Wales a speedy recovery as they both under-go cancer treatment. Neither Kate, who is undergoing chemotherapy, nor William attended the service. Redmond Shannon reports.

Since Russia's invasion began two years ago, Canada has welcomed nearly 300,000 Ukrainians seeking to escape the conflict on emergency visas. But Sunday marked the last day for anyone who was granted those visas to arrive in Canada. Now, advocacy groups are calling for an expansion to the federal government's program to help those who want to stay and become permanent residents. Abigail Bimman explains.

Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is into the home stretch of preparing to deliver this year's federal budget. Freeland is set to table the spending plan in the House of Commons April 16 and she's been getting lots of advice on what should be in the budget. That includes advice from MPs on the House of Commons Finance Committee who, after cross country hearings with Canadians, prepared a pre-budget submission containing more than 300 recommendations. As our chief political correspondent David Akin reports, some of those recommendations are aimed squarely at making life more affordable for senior citizens.

A Calgary church is showing solidarity with it’s LGBTQ+ community as it combines an Easter service with a drag show, resulting in the “Drag Me to Church” service. This year, Easter Sunday overlaps with International Transgender Day of Visibility. As Craig Momney reports, organizers say the event is not only a show of support for the trans community, but also a "sacred act of protest.”

You might not think about it every day, but plastic pollution is one of the biggest challenges facing humanity today. The world produces mountains upon mountains of plastic waste, and Canadians are no exception. Three million tonnes of plastic waste are generated internationally each year every year, so if you think recycling is the solution, think again. Researchers say only nine per cent of what's put in blue bins actually gets recycled. As Eric Sorensen reports, researchers in Scotland are "chewing" their way toward a solution to cut down on waste.

And, on the 75th anniversary of Newfoundland and Labrador joining Canada, the province celebrates with arts grants and commemorative license plates. Yet the legacy of confederation still stirs ongoing debate. The province's terms of union failed to address Indigenous rights, leaving many excluded from programs and services. Heidi Petracek explores other overlooked complexities, and how Newfoundlanders perceive the history today.
