Emotions are raw in Saskatchewan, following the discovery of hundreds of unmarked graves at the former Marieval Indian Residential School. Heather Yourex-West spoke with one survivor of a Saskatchewan residential school, Gratia Perkins, about her memories of being locked in closets, and her demands for accountability.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is demanding for a papal apology on Canadian soil, over the atrocities Indigenous families endured through the Catholic Church’s residential school systems. Mike Le Couteur explains why, and how the prime minister is responding to a text message his Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister sent to an Indigenous MP in the wake of the latest discovery of unmarked graves at one of those former schools.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin will spend 22.5 years in prison for fatally kneeling on George Floyd's neck for over nine minutes, as one of the most watched murder cases in the U.S. comes to an end. Jackson Proskow has the emotional response from activists, as well as both Chauvin and Floyd’s families.

Finding unmarked graves and identifying the remains of residential school students is painstaking work, both technically and emotionally. Few people are trained to do it. Dawna Friesen speaks with University of Alberta archaeologist Kisha Supernant about the use of ground-penetrating radar to find the graves of Indigenous children, and how the technology will be used more often.
