In tonight’s top story: The federal government has announced that fully vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents can soon enter the country by land or air without having to quarantine — as long as they test negative for COVID-19.
David Akin has the details on the government’s plan to ease travel restrictions.
And Robin Gill reports on travel obstacles for some cross-border Canadian families who still won’t be able to reunite despite the loosened measures.
On the vaccination front, some Canadians slated for a second dose of the Pfizer COVID19 vaccine, in the coming week, will instead be offered Moderna.
The news comes after the federal government announced it was facing a shipment delay. As Jamie Mauracher reports, it has again prompted the question: is mixing safe and effective?
Some researchers say the Delta variant, or B.1.617.2 sub-lineage, which was first discovered in India late last year, is presenting some new symptoms.
As Eric Sorensen reports, British researchers say the variant symptoms are looking like a “bad flu” in younger people, with the number one symptom being headache.
Plus, Tokyo Olympics are set to allow 50% venue capacity, Olympics organizers said on Monday. It's a decision that cuts against the recommendation of medical experts who said holding the event without fans was the least risky option.
Redmond Shannon reports.
