In tonight’s top story: One minute before deadline, the U.S. has ended its 20-year war in Afghanistan, with the last C-17 flight carrying the chief U.S. diplomat in Afghanistan, Ross Wilson, leaving the country.

More than 122,000 people have been airlifted out of Kabul since Aug. 14, the day before the Taliban regained control of the country two decades after being removed from power by a U.S.-led invasion.

The departure took place after U.S. anti-missile defenses intercepted rockets fired at Kabul's airport. Redmond Shannon reports.

Within U.S. borders: Hurricane Ida, one of the most powerful hurricanes ever to hit the U.S. Gulf Coast, knocked out power to over 1 million homes in Louisiana on Monday and prompted rescue operations in flooded communities around New Orleans as the weakening storm churned northward.

Jennifer Johnson reports on the long way to recovery Louisianans face.

And Mike Armstrong reports on the dangers of riding out a hurricane like Ida.

On the federal election campaign trails: the Liberals are making climate change promises, David Akin follows Justin Trudeau’s $1 billion funding announcement for freshwater research in Quebec, and Mike Le Couteur reports on the Conservatives' promises on animal welfare and policy towards the oil and gas industry.

And Eric Sorensen reports on political parties' approaches towards reducing gas emissions.

Plus, Abigail Bimman reports on the NDP’s pledge to increase taxes on the wealthiest.
