A new report says worldwide military spending jumped 3.7 percent in 2022, a record increase. That's according to the Stockholm International Peace Institute, or SIPRI.
Overall world military spending was 2.2 trillion dollars last year - led by the US, China and Russia. The biggest jump came in Europe, which spent 13 percent more than the year before, led by Russia and Ukraine. Russia's neighbor Finland increased its own spending by 36 percent. Many other countries including Germany pumped up their spending on equipment and personnel following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Spending was also bumped by rising inflation in many of the world's biggest military powers.
