Downtown Minneapolis has the flair of a ghost town these days.
City Hall and other municipal, county and state government buildings have been fortified. The city spent months planning and preparing for what is likely to be the highest profile trial in the history of Minnesota. As the start of the trial nears, there's a palpable strain in the air. The trial will begin with the potentially lengthy process of jury selection. The court has allocated up to three weeks for that. Ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin faces charges of 2nd degree murder and 2nd degree manslaughter for the death of George Floyd. The 46-year-old black man was killed during his arrest by Chauvin. That was 10 months ago -- on May 25th 2020.
