A vigil was held on Sunday for George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, ahead of the opening arguments of the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin.

The family of Floyd was joined by civil rights activist Al Sharpton and attorney Ben Crump for the prayer vigil.

"We've seen case after case, the time has come for this country to show that nobody is above the law," Sharpton told the people gathered.

Floyd's brothers Terrence and Philonise both spoke as well, calling for justice and accountability in the trial.

People also gathered earlier in the day, with people marching through Minneapolis in support of Floyd.

After nearly three weeks, the 12-member jury was finalized, consisting of six who are white, four who are Black and two who identify as multi-racial. Seven are women and five are men.
