During a press conference in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, U.S. President Joe Biden claimed that the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital explosion which killed hundreds in Gaza City on Tuesday was the result of a "rocket fired by a terrorist group in Gaza."
Israel and Hamas have been trading blame for the incident since it occurred. Since Hamas carried out an unprecedented, multi-front attack on Israel on Oct. 7, killing hundreds of innocent residents and visitors, Israel has bombarded Gaza with ground and air attacks for the last 11 days, skyrocketing the overall death toll.
Biden's address came shortly after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — who the U.S. president declared he is working with on hostage recovery efforts.
"There's no higher priority than the release and safe return of all of these hostages," Biden said, addressing U.S. citizens with missing friends and family in the Middle East.
Furthermore, Biden announced $100 million in new U.S. funding for humanitarian assistance across Gaza and the West Bank to support more than 1 million displaced Palestinians — including emergency needs in Gaza.
