During the Group of Seven’s (G7) 2024 foreign ministers' summit in Capri, Italy on Wednesday, leaders urged European Union (EU) and fellow G7 nations to provide further support and bolster Ukraine’s air defences against Russia amid the ongoing two-year-spanning war.

“Concrete decisions have to be taken in order to send to Ukraine more air defence. Otherwise, the electricity system of Ukraine will be destroyed, and no country can fight without having electricity,” EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell said, warning that the U.S. cannot be the only nation Ukraine relies upon.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba echoed Borrell’s statements, calling to anti-missile defences being supplied to Israel in their ongoing conflict with Hamas militants in Gaza. "The strategy of our partners in Israel [U.S., UK, France] seems to be in preventing damage and death...In the last months, the strategy of our partners in Ukraine seems to be in helping [us] to recover from damage," he said.

"So, our job today is to find a way where our partners will design a mechanism, a way that will allow us also to avoid death and destruction in Ukraine,” Kuleba added.
