A hike in petrol and diesel prices for the seventh consecutive day has lead to record-breaking fuel costs in the country. While the government points at the rising costs of the crude oil, high amount of taxes were charged even when the costs were low. Since over half the retail cost of petrol and diesel are due to central and state taxes, can the government step in to ease the pain on the common man's pocket?
