Ontario Premier Doug Ford said on Tuesday that his government has returned to the negotiating table with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the union representing 55,000 education workers who are back on the job today after a walkout.

Ford said the government is presenting an “improved” offer to the union and will introduce legislation next Monday to repeal Bill 28 in its entirety.

CUPE workers ended their strike on Monday after Ford’s announcement and returned to schools today.

The union is asking for more support for low-income workers and CUPE remains in a legal strike position. This means if negotiations fall apart, CUPE would need to give five days’ notice if it intended to strike again.
