U.S. President Joe Biden spoke about some of the achievements of his first term during the North America's Building Trades Union Legislative conference on Tuesday, just hours after he launched his re-election campaign for 2024.

Biden read off statements in various newspapers which appeared to tout Biden's push on manufacturing, before he went on to say that it was time to "finish the job." This comment prompted those in the audience to chant "four more years." He also spoke about inflation, saying it wasn't just an American problem but a global problem, before citing the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine among the issues that have caused strains on global supply.

Former president Donald Trump also released a video Tuesday to comment on his former and potential future rival's re-election bid, accusing Biden of a "socialist spending calamity" that had caused banks to fail, the currency to crash and the worst inflation in "half a century." He also said that Biden had "humiliated" the U.S. on the world stage, starting with Afghanistan. He concluded saying that it was "almost inconceivable" Biden would think of running for re-election after a "calamitous and failed presidency."
