1. Russia's parliament approved treaties with two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine, opening the way for an immediate Russian troop deployment despite the threat of Western sanctions including the blocking of a major new pipeline.
2. Ukraine may break off diplomatic relations with Russia after Moscow decided to recognise two breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine as independent, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said at a briefing.
3. Jurors were due to resume deliberations in the federal hate-crimes trial of three white men convicted of state murder charges for chasing down and killing Ahmaud Arbery, a young Black man out jogging through their Georgia neighborhood.
4. The Italian coastguard rescued 573 migrants at sea who were trying to reach Europe aboard two fishing boats in distress in bad weather, a statement said. One body was found.
5. Queen Elizabeth will miss a planned virtual engagement because she is still experiencing mild cold-like symptoms after testing positive for COVID-19, a spokesman for Buckingham Palace said.
