The Democratic Republic of Congo became the latest country to see a grey, metallic monolith-looking structure appear, turning into a magnet for bemused residents on Wednesday.
Monoliths started popping up last year, first in Utah in the United States, followed by Romania, Canada and other countries. Many of the structures had a habit of then disappearing only a few days after they appeared.
Residents had mixed reactions, some taking selfies with others trying to remove it. The mayor of the Bandalungwa commune, found within the DRC's capital of Kinshasa, remarked on the structure, saying "this is cultural, it's extraordinary."
