The European Union's (EU) foreign ministers agreed on Monday another 500 million euros of EU funding to supply arms to Ukraine, taking the bloc's security support to 2.5 billion euros since Russia forces swept into Ukraine.

"There has been a political agreement on supporting this proposal. The decision will be taken in the next days," EU Foreign policy chief Josep Borrell told a news conference after the meeting.

The money should help the EU buy more equipment and supplies for the Ukrainian, including lethal weaponry that the bloc says should be used for defensive purposes.

The EU approved the first tranche of the aid just after Russia's invasion began, in what was described by EU officials as a watershed moment for a bloc long wary of military involvement beyond its borders.

After blaming Russia for the ongoing food crisis and accusing it of violence in Ukraine, the bloc's top diplomat urged that “I'm sure Putin is counting on the democratic fatigue… The European societies cannot afford fatigue.”
