Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi has admitted the government did not do enough to help those threatened by fuel poverty ahead of the energy price cap hike.

He insisted "help is coming" for consumers but did not spell out what that help might be.

Millions of households will see their energy bills rise by as much as 80% after the price cap was raised to £3,549 a year.
