The rulers of ancient Egypt knew how to travel to the afterlife in style, as demonstrated by Pharaoh Khufu's 42-meter (138-foot)-long cedarwood boat, modelled on transport favored by the sun god Ra. Buried with the Pharaoh in the largest of the three Giza pyramids, the vessel was discovered by archaeologists in 1954, by which time, hopefully, Khufu had no more use for it.
