Edmonton man finds out of this world discovery on rooftop

A loud bang on an Edmonton roof led to a rare find, and the discovery was all thanks to a mundane chore.

“Did someone just shoot of my roof,” thought the homeowner, Doug Olsen.

An initial search of his roof in the fall of 2022 showed no damage, so Olsen put it behind him.

However, while doing some spring cleaning, clearing his gutters, he found a black pebble.

“At that point I was thinking, 'Jeez how come I couldn’t find it?' Back when I was looking,” Olsen said.

Suspecting it was no ordinary pebble, he took it to the University of Alberta where experts knew right away it was a meteorite.
