Eastern Canada weather forecast: Why this year's winter could look like snowy, stormy 2007

When preparing a winter forecast, analog years are chosen – these are winter seasons when a similar meteorological setup was in place – including sea surface temperatures (La Niña) and teleconnections, which are weather patterns in one part of the world that have ramifications thousands of kilometres away.

We are in the second year of a back-to-back La Niña also known as a “double-dip.” These colder-than-normal water temperatures in the equator region of the Pacific Ocean are an influencing factor on weather patterns around the planet.

Ross Hull shows us how this upcoming winter season in Eastern Canada may have similar patterns to the snowy, stormy winter of 2007-08.
