Demonstrators took to the streets of San Francisco to demand action on climate change and other environmental issues on Friday, ahead of Earth Day on April 22.
Chanting "Rise up, get down – the people's movement is in town," demonstrators carried a banner reading: "Youth vs. Apocalypse" as they made their way through the city. The crowd of roughly 100 people then paused to listen to remarks from fellow activists and to watch a dance performance.
Meanwhile, in London, England, protesters staged a “die-in” in on Earth Day, which is Saturday.
The "die-in" was part of a four-day campaign, organized by Extinction Rebellion, dubbed the “Big One,” according to event information.
According to Extinction Rebellion, the event was supported by more than 200 other organizations and companies, including Greenpeace, Patagonia, NHS Staff Voices, Mothers Rise Up, Welsh Rivers Union, and more.
Volunteers in dozens of countries were set to plant trees, clean up trash and urge governments to do more to combat climate change to mark Earth Day, as scientists warn of more extreme weather and record temperatures this year.
