On Thursday, protesters clashed with riot police in Dublin and a bus was set ablaze following a knife attack that injured five people, including three young children.
"It was horrific, absolutely horrific for Dublin," a Dublin resident said after the riots overnight also saw storefronts vandalized and broken into.
Speaking after a meeting of the British-Irish Council in Dublin Castle, Leo Varadkar, Ireland's Prime Minister, said that it is safe to be in the city and there will be a heightened police presence.
