Sir Michael Morpurgo has spoken to Sky News about the importance of fiction and poetry in teaching children about the impact and history of war but said we must not "traumatise" them.

The former Children's laureate said literature had a "huge part" to play in helping children to understand historical events.

He said it was important to write in a "sensitive" way, not shying away from "the loss, the grief and the hope".

Sir Michael's new book, Finding Alfie: A D-Day Story, was inspired by true events and was developed in partnership with the Royal British Legion.
