The 'January 6th' attack on the US Capitol in 2021 was not an 'insurrection' but a 'riot', lawyers for Donald Trump have told the US Supreme court.

The argument is the former President’s bid to overturn a ban on Mr Trump appearing on Colorado's Republican primary ballot next month.

It all centres on the former President's alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his involvement in the storming of the Capitol.
