The daughter of Emeritus Desmond Tutu paid a touching tribute to her father, while President Cyril Ramaphosa lauded the late Archbishop as "our moral compass and national conscience" at a state funeral on Saturday in Cape Town, South Africa.

Reverend Nontombi Naomi Tutu thanked her father "for the many ways you showed us love."

"Our departed father was a crusader in the struggle for freedom, for justice, for equality and for peace, not just in South Africa, the country of his birth, but around the world," President Ramaphosa said, delivering the main eulogy at the service in St George's Cathedral.

Tutu, who earned a Nobel Peace Prize for playing a role in ending South Africa’s apartheid regime of racial oppression, and for championing the rights of LGBTQ people, died last Sunday aged 90.
