Two of the witnesses in the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin, including the woman whose cellphone video of George Floyd's deadly arrest went viral, both became emotional during their testimonies on Tuesday with the cellphone owner saying the moment changed her life.
"He cried for his mom. He was in pain. It seemed like he knew... it seemed like he knew it was over for him," Darnella Frazier told the jury in Minneapolis.
She also told prosecutor Jerry Blackwell, the defence and jurors that there have been nights she "stayed up apologizing and apologizing to George Floyd for not doing more."
Donald Williams, a 33-year-old martial artist, can be heard on the videos of the arrest screaming insults at Chauvin, for which he was questioned about and demanding police check for Floyd's pulse. The 911 call he had placed was played back in court and Williams was seen wiping tears away. Asked why he called 911, he said he believed he had witnessed a murder.
Floyd, a Black man, was killed while in police custody in Minneapolis as Chauvin apparently knelt on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes and 27 seconds.
