Degrees of Abuse – The Impact

This episode, from Al Jazeera’s I-Unit reveals the extraordinary impact of the series, Degrees of Abuse, first released in late 2021, which created a storm on social media.

The podcast reveals what’s happened to the four male academics accused of sexual misconduct. Women in each of the cases featured, describe how they reacted finally to hear the names made public and see the massive support that flooded in from around the world.

Much of the episode was recorded at a conference, entitled “Silence Will Not Protect Us” held at an Oxford university college. It was organised by a group of students outraged at the experiences of sexual harassment featured in the podcasts.

The podcast also hears from a senior UK politician, Annaliese Dodds, the Shadow Women and Equalities Secretary, who wrote to Oxford University’s Vice Chancellor expressing her grave concern at the cases in Degrees of Abuse.
