The global fashion industry is responsible for approximately 10 percent of carbon emissions, more than international aviation and the shipping industry combined.

To help limit global warming, it thus makes sense for us all to buy fewer new clothes and to recycle as many old ones as possible.

But what happens to the used garments donated to charity shops in the developed world? Many end up in Ghana, where they support a major industry employing thousands of people.

The problem, as this episode of People & Power reveals, is that this is also creating an environmental catastrophe.
