During Monday's question period in the House of Commons, the first since David Johnston's resignation as special rapporteur, Conservative Party of Canada Leader Pierre Poilievre asked Liberals why a public inquiry hasn't been called to investigate allegations of foreign interference.

Johnston resigned from his role as special rapporteur on June 9 amid criticism of his ties to Trudeau and growing calls for a public inquiry.

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc said Liberals have always called a public inquiry "an option," however, Johnston advised against one because it would be a threat to national security, with too much confidential information potentially made public.

Plus, while Alain Therrien, a Bloc Québécois MP, said Johnston stepping down was an "honourable decision," he said he should "never have been put in that position."
