"Cycle of rubbish": Britons, Labour party call for general election after Liz Truss resigns

Britons across the U.K. were unsurprised by British Prime Minister Liz Truss' resignation on Thursday but called for political stability in a country gripped by a cost of living crisis.

''We need a general election because it's just a cycle of rubbish and they replace rubbish with more rubbish...We can't just keep having different leaders who...they're ruining the country at the end of the day,' one man said outside Downing Street in London.

Meanwhile, Labour Party leader Keir Starmer called for general election to end the "revolving door of chaos," at the top of the Tory party.

Those in Knutsford, part of the traditionally conservative constituency of Tatton, were in favour of Truss's resignation, though were at a loss as to who was fit to replace her.

Liz Truss said on Thursday she would resign as British prime minister, brought down just six weeks into the job by an economic plan that shattered investor confidence and enraged much of her own party.
