Two heavyweights in the Conservative leadership race rallied supporters in two provinces on Saturday that could be key in deciding who becomes the next leader of the official opposition.

Favourite Pierre Poilievre is getting some stiffer than expected competition from Patrick Brown and Jean Charest.

CPC leadership hopefuls have until April 19 to throw their hat into the ring and until June 3 to sell memberships.

The party will vote on its new leader on September 10.

David Akin reports.
