COVID inquiry: Boris Johnson says sorry for 'pain and suffering'

The former Prime Minister was giving his first day of evidence to the inquiry into the government's response to the pandemic, and he opened by apologising to victims.

He said he hoped the probe would be able to "get answers to those very difficult questions" that victims and their families were "rightly asking".

But the opening moments of his evidence was interrupted after four people were removed from the public gallery after holding up pictures, along with the words: "The dead can't hear your apologies."
