There are growing and urgent calls for action as Canadian girls — who were forced onto the sidelines due to COVID-19 shutting down many sporting activities — are leaving the sports they once engaged in.
Canadian Women & Sport reports one in four girls in the country who played a sport before COVID-19 may not return, amounting to more than 350,000 girls. Allison Sandmeyer-Graves, with the organization, says that's the equivalent to every girl between six and 18 years in Alberta.
As Kendra Slugoski reports, it's not too late to reverse this but it will take effort through activities like school sports, and coaches and parents finding out what will keep girls in the game.
