Months after leaving behind its lockdown measures, the United Kingdom is once again seeing a drastic rise in COVID-19 cases and deaths, despite its largely vaccinated population.

The country has also seen more than 40,000 new cases for seven days straight, and recently recorded its highest number of daily COVID-related deaths in seven months.

Britain was the first Western country to begin a rollout of vaccines, but as Redmond Shannon explains, that early success may be the root of its current troubles.
